My $10 coffee pot (with an RTV patched reservoir) had a broken switch. I disassembled it and soldered the hot 120 line to the heater. I now have a working coffee pot. I even used heat shrink!

Yes, that was definitely my intention. I am not bored and drunk.

Oh crap, I forgot to sign up this year!

You should have retrofitted it with a heavy duty toggle switch. Although that would have cost $4 or so.

I have a few of those but don't like using metal switches for power after a... bad experience. Maybe for 12VDC but not for 120VAC. This coffee pot only plugs into a GFCI so this is fine I think

Use it up.
Wear it out.
Make due,
or do without.
I applaud your fix. It saved you money and saved sending something prematurely to the dump.

I’ve also pulled apart and fixed a cheap coffee maker. In my case one of those cheesy clamps between the heater and silicone tubing lines came off and caused it to leak all over my counter when I turned it on. I could’ve bought a new one but it’s just more satisfying to fix things.

If we’re talking switches, please use an aircraft safety lockout switch .

Oh that would be sweet. I might take a light switch and a spare recepta cle and make something.

I like this....put the switch on the wall where it controls the outlet that the coffee maker is plugged into. Also, put a remove- before- flight tag on the filter basket to ensure you have coffee grounds and water.
This is one hell of a project you got going!

I'd do that if this wasn't a rental, honestly. I like the remove before flight tag. I've made invisible coffee before.

I've heard invisible coffee is really healthy for you, high in antioxidants and low acid, I should really start doing that more.

My vote goes to using one of these:

How about one of these? You’ll be the ONLY person with a coffee maker with a pull-chain switch. IT WOULD BE GLORIOUS!!!!
